:

Responsible for performing charge capture for the areas of Emergency Department, Observation (CDU and House), Labor and Delivery, and Mother/Baby. Responsible for reviewing patient medical record, including nursing notes, physician orders and progress notes thoroughly to interpret and extract all charges (including the calculation of observation hours) and complete Facility Charge Ticket .

Maintains a minimum productivity standard of 18 cases per hour for Emergency Services charts including chart review, charge extraction, E&M level assignment and charge entry.

Maintain electronic logs to accurately reflect complete list of patients for each area, status of charge capture, deficiencies and other miscellaneous information. Review and respond to various quality reports, including reports that identify missing charges, duplicate

charges, etc.. Performs daily revenue reconciliation and error management 5 activities as assigned. Communicate effectively with other departments, including leadership for the areas of charge capture, HIM, APC Coordinator, PFS, CDM Coordinator, etc. Responsd to emails and reqeusts from other departments accurately and timely. Communicate with team mates to ensure that team works effectively. Email daily status updates to manager and team mates. Participates in formulation/change of Charge Capture policies/procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education, Licensure / Certification and Experience Required.

A. Education

Two years college course work in a medically related discipline or equivalent work experience in order to gain knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, familiarity with medications, abbreviations, emergency procedures, charges for procedures.

Associates Degree preferred.

B. Licensure / Certification

Certification or licensure in a healthcare discipline (ex: Certified Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse, Paramedic, Respiratory Therapist) preferred.

C Special Skill / Aptitudes

Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.

Ability to operate general office equipment (ie. calculator, fax machine, copy machine.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with automated systems (Cerner PowerChart, Cerner FirstNet, HealthQuest) preferred.

Good interpersonal skills in order to deal effectively and diverse patient and Hospital populations. Ability to recognize and prioritize people in stressful situations.

Ability to concentrate and display attention to detail for extended periods of time with good time management skills.

D. Experience

Minimum of two years billing/coding experience in a hospital emergency department or hospital based EMS, preferred.
