Job Summary

The Unit Coordinator (Ward Clerk) is responsible for the administrative and clerical functions of the Inpatient Nursing Department, including but not limited to, assisting with patient scheduling, coordinating and updating the unit bed boards, assisting other departments with patient documentation, completing the daily acuity reports, follow-up/wellness checks for patients, chart filing, tracking and updating of unit census, answering the unit phones, ensuring forms and documents are updated and compliant, stocking unit supplies, and assisting in staff breaks and MHW Team Lead coverage as necessary. The person in this position serves as an immediate resource for patients, families, physicians, staff, administration, and visitors in the units. A critical function of this position is to coordinate the flow of information and activities supporting the delivery of safe, quality patient care.

You should have a current CPR certification when you apply or obtain certification prior to your start date.

Additionally, you'll complete a "Handle-With-Care" Physical Restraint Technique Training during your orientation.

This position operates on an Alternate Work Schedule of 12-hour shifts beginning either at 6am or 6pm.

Ideally, someone with at least 6 months of experience as a Mental Health Worker focused on human behavior, psychiatry, psychology, social services, and related fields will apply.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate pertinent patient information to the clinical team or other appropriate individual.

  • Coordinate DocuSign for Physician orders signatures.

  • Serve as point of contact for unit inquiries; direct inquiries as appropriate for timely resolution.

  • Track census and acuity of patients throughout the shift

  • Participates in activities which enhance professional growth and development. Upholds the Organization’s ethics and customer service standards.

  • Maintains the bed boards for the units.

  • Coordinate all patient movement, bed changes, room changes, etc.

  • Ensure all units are well stocked with all necessary supplies.

  • Keep an accurate, real-time census of discharges and available beds

  • Manage Unit Calendars

  • Manage various reports to leadership and other stakeholders as requested or required.

  • Assist with coordinating staff coverage for breaks and other staffing needs

  • Assist in collaboration with outpatient staff to facilitate step-down process

  • Improve Intake and discharge process to improve quality and increase safety of clients

  • Ensures unit program schedules are happening as posted

  • Assists MHW's, RN's, House Supervisors, Physicians, and all other hospital staff as needed.

  • Performs related duties as requested.

This position pays between $17.67 - $24.99 with an automatic increase to a minimum of $21 per hour effective June 1st, 2024.
