Location Description The Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania facility is 1,120,845 square feet and home to about 470 hard working team members who are proud to produce iconic pet food brands like Kibbles 'n Bits® and 9Lives®. This location has a cannery that produces wet dog food and there is also a Distribution Center on-site. Bloomsburg is home to Bloomsburg University, a municipal airport, a landmark Town Park with many acres of recreational activities, and has one of the largest and longest running fairs in the country. With so much to do and see, Bloomsburg is a great place to live, work and play! Responsibilities The Site Scientist/Engineer is responsible for providing technical support to sustain and improve ingredient and product performance, safety, quality, yield, rates, and efficiencies. The Scientist/Engineer will represent the Bloomsburg, PA pet food manufacturing location and consult for and assist in product and process changes, new product development, ingredients, processes, and equipment. They support, implement, and maintain food safety, food safety culture, and quality practices as required through Quality and Food Safety programs. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Support technical efforts to evaluate and improve on processes and formulations in Pet food manufacturing to improve production rates, efficiencies, and yield while maintaining reliable and safe manufacturing systems. Coordinate plant trials for commercialization of new products & corporate cost savings projects to evaluate new ingredients, formulas, and processing parameters. Provide technical guidance between operations and R&D on new product/process development. Work within formulation and specification systems, with a focus on recipe creation, ingredient substitutions, cost optimization and plant trial requests. Collect and analyze data from suppliers, plant operations, customers, and consumers. Facilitate local change control and tracking. Manage the evaluation of new crops of ingredients, equipment, or packaging materials. Responsible for updating, maintaining, and conducting analysis at the plant level to support daily manufacturing. Act as a subject matter expert in fundamental understanding of the core production processes, ingredients, products at the Bloomsburg site and provide technical expertise to technical resources and operating technicians. Responsible for sharing best practices across sites to improve product, process, and ingredient efficiencies. Qualifications Education BS or MS in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field. Experience At least 2 years of related experience in food manufacturing, product development, process engineering and/or process development. Experience in extrusion and/or retort is preferred.  Experience in pet food or animal feed is a plus. Other Demonstrated leadership and strong negotiation skills. Demonstrated analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Understanding of manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies. Ability to work effectively in team-based environment with multiple functional groups, in a collaborative and positive manner. Ability to influence, mentor and coach to get results through others. Ability to achieve results and execute multiple simultaneous projects in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines, and communicating status. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Passionate about safety and quality. Able to maintain a respectful and safe work environment. Location On site – Bloomsburg, PA Required Travel Up to 25%
