    General Statement

The School of Art at Montana State University is accepting applications for a full-time, Visiting Faculty position in ceramics/sculpture. The School of Art offers MFA , BFA , and BA degrees in Studio Arts with an emphasis in ceramics and sculpture, as well as painting, printmaking and metal-smithing. The program focuses on the development of critical thinking and the skills necessary for successful employment within the creative industries.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fall semester: Two Ceramics 1 courses (4-credits each), 1 Graduate Caucus course (3 credits)

  • Spring Semester: 1 Intermediate Ceramics course (5 Cr), 1 Ceramics 1 course (4 Credits)

  • Meet with Graduate and Undergraduate students beyond the classroom as may be appropriate to their educational needs

  • Committee service as assigned. (3 WLU per semester)

  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours either on campus or online.

  • Maintain and submit grades in accordance with University policy.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • MFA in ceramics/sculpture or appropriately related field.

  • Demonstrated ceramic process skills within areas from foundational through advanced levels.

  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal and written.

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Previous teaching experience at the college or university level.

  • A record of scholarly creative work.

  • Experience in ONE or more of the following areas: +

  • ceramic forming

  • material research

  • atmospheric firing

    The Successful Candidate Will

  • Teach ceramic/sculpture courses from foundational through advanced levels.

  • Pursue an active professional practice.

  • Collaborate on curriculum development and assessment

  • Contribute service to the university, the community, and the profession
