POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec Compression and Process is currently recruiting an Intermediate Process Engineer- Facilities to work at our Glenmore Office location (Suite 240, 4000 Glenmore Court SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 5R8) .   The Intermediate Process Engineer – Facilities will be responsible for providing process engineering expertise and technical support for all facility projects from FEED stage through detailed engineering to start-up and commissioning.  Reporting to the Process Engineering Lead, the Intermediate Process Engineer – Facilities will be responsible for developing and optimizing process simulations, equipment selection and sizing, generating PFDs, HMBs & P&IDs, sizing of control valves, PSVs and flare system, developing process control documents such as process and control narratives and shutdown key (Cause & Effect) while collaborating with cross-functional teams and third-party vendors to ensure efficient and effective execution of technical requirements.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):

DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT (Weighting 50%) Process Design & Engineering  

  • Provide input and support process design and engineering for Facility projects.

  • Develop block flow diagrams, process flow diagrams, heat & material balances, and P&IDs.

  • Optimize process simulations for new projects.

  • Size major equipment, piping, control valves, PSVs, and flare systems.

  • Develop process and control narratives and shutdown keys (Cause & Effect).

  • Participate in HAZOP/HAZID/LOPA meetings.

  • Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Keep the DBM up to date.

  • Prepare LDT and Data Sheets as required.

    Facilities System integration  

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate BOP systems into plant design.

  • Conduct system analyses and simulations to optimize operations, identify bottlenecks, and enhance reliability.

    TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE (Weighting 20%) Process Troubleshooting & Optimization

  • Resolve process issues by collaborating with operations and maintenance teams.

  • Analyze process performance data to optimize efficiency and/or de-bottleneck operations.

  • Establish process monitoring systems for safe & stable operations. Top of Form

    Technical Expertise & Guidance

  • Offer technical expertise and support to process engineering teams on Facility projects.

  • Develop and review process engineering deliverables for accuracy, quality, and compliance.

  • Mentor and coach junior engineers to enhance their technical skills and professional development. Top of Form

    Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Stay current on BOP process design trends and best practices.

  • Identify opportunities for optimizing processes, saving energy, and cutting costs.

  • Lead and support process improvement projects, sharing innovative ideas and implementing best practices.

    PROJECT COLLABORATION (Weighting 15%) Project Coordination

  • Work with project managers to outline project scopes, schedules, and budgets for process engineering tasks.

  • Track project advancement, recognize risks or challenges, and suggest suitable solutions or mitigation plans.

  • Coordinate with procurement and construction teams to guarantee on-time delivery of equipment and materials.

    Client Engagement & Technical Presentations

  • Interact with clients to grasp their process needs and offer technical solutions.

  • Develop and deliver technical presentations to clients, explaining process design concepts and project updates.

  • Foster and uphold strong client relationships by addressing concerns and ensuring satisfaction.

  • Engage in technical meetings with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to manage expectations, communicate progress, and tackle project challenges.

    PROCESS COMPLIANCE & QUALITY ASSURANCE (Weighting 15%) HAZOP & Safety Analysis

  • Participate in Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies and safety analyses to identify potential process hazards and risks.

  • Collaborate with HAZOP participants to implement appropriate safeguards and mitigation measures.

  • Resolve the HAZOP recommendations and close them out.

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, guidelines, and regulations throughout the process design and operation Top of Form .

    Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Implement quality control procedures to maintain high standards in process design and engineering.

  • Review and approve vendor documentation, technical specifications, and equipment data sheets.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements in process design and operation.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, or a related field (mandatory).

  • Five or more years of proven experience in process design and engineering within gas processing and refinery facilities.

  • Comprehensive understanding of process engineering principles encompassing fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, water treatment, fuel handling, cooling, and heating; including product storage, ventilation, and auxiliary systems.

  • Possession of a P.Eng (APEGA) or Professional Licensee (Engineering) accreditation.

  • Proficient knowledge of pertinent industry codes and standards such as ASME, API, ABSA and CSA.

  • Mastery in utilizing process simulation software (e.g., Symmetry).

  • Extensive experience with process safety protocols and risk assessment methodologies like HAZOP, SIL, coupled with experience in regulatory compliance (e.g., OSHA, EPA).

  • Proven track record in equipment sizing, control valve sizing, and PSV sizing.

  • Strong leadership capabilities, including the aptitude to guide and mentor junior process engineers effectively.

  • Outstanding analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Attentive to detail with a commitment to precision and quality.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal proficiencies, facilitating efficient collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

  • Self-sufficiency in managing/supporting multiple projects concurrently while working autonomously.

  • Be able to understand when it is important to switch from designing the process to executing the project.
