Aquatic Center Lifeguard - 2024 Season

JOB SUMMARY

This position is a seasonal position and will report to the Waterpark Manager/Assistant Waterpark Manager, Public Works Superintendent and the City of Fairbury.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in and around the pool and waterpark areas
  • Acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency until the arrival of emergency medical services
  • Communicate and enforce pool regulations and rules in a personable and professional manner
  • Monitor weather reports closely to ensure the safety of the patrons
  • Maintain a clean environment in and around the pool and waterpark areas including, but not limited to using a variety of tools and equipment
  • Must work weekends, evenings and holidays and plan ahead to find a suitable substitute for shifts that cannot be covered that were assigned
Qualifications

Must be 15 years or older (proof of age required) Proficient skills in all phases of swimming and aquatic safety Accurate vision (corrected and non-corrected) Good oral and written skills, record keeping and organized Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. carry, push or pull a variety of tools equipment and materials used in maintenance and preparation of the pool Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel and work in a crouched position Ability to maintain constant surveillance and communicate effectively Must complete YMCA Lifeguard Certification Applicant must enjoy working with the public and be able to work in a kind, courteous, and helpful manner with staff and public.

Special Requirements

*The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job *Must be able to work in an outdoor environment and be exposed to noise, dust, inclement weather conditions, and potentially hostile environments *Employee will be required to participate in bi-weekly training refresher courses at the Fairbury Aquatic Center (approx. 1 hour) to keep your lifeguard skills current *Use of cell phone is prohibited during scheduled work hours
