ITW Manufacturing Engineer in Frankfort, Illinois

ITW Deltar Fasteners is a large division within the Automotive Segment and serves all the major OEMs and their tier suppliers with plastic fasteners. Locations include: Frankfort, IL; Chippewa Falls, WI and our Commercial Sales and Engineering in Troy, MI. The Manufacturing Engineer II will report to the Technical Engineering Manager and will be responsible for continuous improvement project planning and execution throughout the facility. Continuous improvement initiatives will revolve around safety, quality and production. This engineer will also function as a supporting resource for the maintenance and manufacturing teams.

  • Identify and act on continuous improvement initiatives with emphasis on Injection Molding process improvements with a special emphasis on Front-to-Back savings.

  • Manage multiple cross functional projects using solid project management standards, coupled with a sense of urgency for our customers and our employees.

  • Creation and execution of capital expenditure projects of varying size.

  • Study work force utilization, analyze space requirements and propose equipment designs.

  • Plan estimates, production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.

  • Investigate and recommend equipment alternatives and manufacturers for benchmarking.

  • Utilize machine shop equipment for fabrication of various fixtures, containment deflectors, chutes, and other similar items.

  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.

  • BS in Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent, and 5-10 years of practical experience.

  • Strong interpersonal skills - Must be able and willing to communicate with all levels of facility personnel including outside vendors. Also, demonstrate the ability to lead and influence others for positive change.

  • Leadership experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, data summary and presentation skills.

  • Familiarity with Six Sigma, The Toyota Way, and Lean Manufacturing Principles.

  • Experience with Data Analysis, Visualization and Presentation; statistical process control.

  • Highly computer literate and ability to learn and use various software. Proficient with all Microsoft Office products. Familiar with AutoCAD, SmartSheet and FiiX maintenance software a plus.

  • Maintain a positive “can-do” attitude when facing challenging situations, coupled with a willingness to challenge the status quo.

  • Hands-on with the ability to come up with creative design solutions and fabricate/install them.

  • Seeks and recognizes the expertise of technicians and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate successful projects.

  • A willingness to spend extended periods of time job shadowing to fully understand the work of our technicians, especially when it’s relevant to ongoing projects.

  • Familiar with vision systems and logic controllers.

  • Implementation of part inspection technologies including vision systems, 2D/3D laser, etc.

  • Broad knowledge of instrumentation and software technology and design.
