Diageo Health and Safety Coordinator in Gimli, Canada

Job Description :

Context/Scope:

As the Health and Safety Coordinator, you will promote a positive health and safety culture in the workplace, ensuring compliance with safety legislation and safety policies; ensuring practices are adopted and adhered to.

Purpose of Role:

As a member of the Governance Team, this role is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring policies, procedures, and training programs for the support of the site Health and Safety agenda!

As a vital member of the team, this specific position will focus primarily on:

  • Assuring safety of employees, contractors, and visitors.

  • Ensuring daily compliance to corporate, regulatory, and governmental requirements.

  • Works with management to minimize lost time and recordable incidents.

  • Development and implementation of processes and programs to improve the safety performance; includes Brady 360, Safestart.

  • Develop and maintain a positive and proactive relationships with site management, employees, and local regulatory agencies.

  • Management co-chair of the Health & Safety Committee. Collaboratively works with hourly and salaried team.

  • Other duties as requested by Governance Manager.

Key Outputs:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and programs in accordance with relevant legislation and industry best practices.

  • Track key Safety Metrics and ensure actions are taken to improve critical metrics. Communicate metrics throughout the site.

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of construction sites to identify hazards, assess risks, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

  • Provide guidance and support to site supervisors and workers on safety protocols, procedures, and equipment usage.

  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, and prepare detailed reports with recommendations for preventive measures.

  • Coordinate with project managers and subcontractors to ensure adherence to safety requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Conduct safety training sessions and toolbox talks for employees to promote awareness and safe work practices.

  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and standard methodologies related to Health and Safety, and incorporate them into company policies and procedures.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance.

  • Engaging, coaching, and influencing the site, area, and functional leaders with the health and safety activities and processes.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Driver's license.

  • Certificate or Degree Occupational Health and Safety.

  • Relevant certifications such as CRSP, CSP, CHSC or NCSO would be an asset or in the process of obtaining.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in health and safety management, preferably in the manufacturing or construction industry.

  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.

  • Proven ability to conduct safety inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Enablon, SAP, Brady 360

  • Strong leadership skills, ability to speak to deliver messaging to, both small and large groups of varied backgrounds and experience.

  • Proven ability to effect change within a manufacturing environment through diagnosing, crafting, and implementing solutions.
