The Process Controls Engineer reports to the Superintendent of Process Engineering, who in turn reports to the Engineering Manager. Peer groups include process and process controls engineers within the group and project engineers within the department.
Monitor and troubleshoot the DCS, PLC, SIS, and instrument operation/performance and work with site I&E Technicians, control engineers, and process engineers to correct deficiencies.
Support capital projects by specifying instrumentation and/or providing timely reviews to instrumentation components proposed by engineering contractors and equipment providers.
Provide Subject Matter Expert Opinions on Process Control, Burner Management, and Safety Instrument Systems to aid Maintenance and Project Engineering
Design of new or improved instrumentation and process control systems
Developing and managing the scope, schedule and budget for new or improved instrumentation and process control projects
Maintain instrument system documentation and change management software. MOC procedures to be followed as needed.
Oversee the technical aspects of the Distributed Control System (DCS) and Safety Instrumented System (SIS) implementation
Analyze operability and reliability trends, providing feedback from instrumentation and control systems to identify areas for improvement
Develop and execute projects to maintain, upgrade and improve the reliability of plant instrumentation and control systems
Develop, maintain and support critical instrument and safety instrumented function testing procedures, retain test records, and ensure the site remains in compliance by scheduling test executions with Maintenance and Operations in a timely manner.
Monitor alarm and instrument system performance. Participate in reviews providing instrument and control system expertise for Process Hazard Analysis and Alarm Rationalization efforts.
The design and implementation of I & E related projects
Project management and controls
Subject matter expert for instrument and logic solver installation
Subject matter expert for interpretation of RAGAGEP codes and standards as they apply to automated systems
BS in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is desired (consideration will be given to equivalent experience and training)
5+ years’ experience in chemical plant, refinery, power plant, or other relevant industry
ISA S84 certification is desired.
Project Management experience is a plus
