Los Alamos National Laboratory Operations Support Specialist 2 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Weapons Facility Operations (WFO) is looking for a reliable, self-motivated Operations Support Specialist 2 that has experience providing excellent customer service to internal and external personnel, while managing multiple overlapping tasks. The selected candidate will report to the WFO Operations Support Manager and provide technical support to WFO-DO. As a member of the WFO Operations Support team, the selected candidate will be responsible for providing operational support for nuclear and non-nuclear operations.

Duties broadly include working to support operations or functional processes, maintaining quality and accuracy of the process, and reliably assisting in seeing the process through to completion. This includes staying in compliance with Laboratory policies and other regulatory requirements. Primary duties will include, but are not limited to, performance reporting, performance feedback and improvement, procurement, procedure development, participation in projects and assessments, contributing to the performance assurance program including issues management, causal analysis, integrated assessment scheduling, readiness for nuclear operations within WFO and being the primary Key Custodian for WFO.

Maximum Salary $110,300

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Communication, Professionalism and Customer Service: Demonstrated excellent customer service and the ability to work closely with team-members, other organizations and customers to solve problems. Demonstrated excellent communication skills (interpersonal, verbal, and written) while interacting with all levels of employees and managers.

Technological tools and work processes: Advanced-level knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, including ability to produce Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations and interact with institutional systems and databases.

Personal Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage frequent interruptions and changing priorities; complete assignments within requirements; be available, dependable, and punctual.

Problem Solving: Experience with researching and using judgment to present solutions to problems. Ability to use professional judgment to complete tasks that do not have established procedures.

Education/Experience:

Position requires an associate degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution and 4 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

Business Skills and Knowledge:

Working knowledge of business systems such as SharePoint, Footprints, PDMLink and Ariba.

  • Causal Analysis Certification

  • Familiarity with Laboratory organizational structure, policies, and procedures.

  • Experience working in a highly regulated environment and adhering to requirements.

  • Experience with LANL vendors for facility system components.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 (https://www.directives.doe.gov/directives-documents/400-series/0472.2-BOrder-chg1-pgchg) for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
