DAGGETT COUNTY Seasonal Mosquito Field Technician I in MANILA, Utah

GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs a variety of entry level field duties related to coordinating and carrying out the county-wide mosquito control program as established by mosquito district and/or state statute.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the direct supervision of the Full Time Field Technician or Mosquito Control Manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

None.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Trap and identify, eradicate and remove mosquitoes.  Drive ATV or truck to remote locations.  Deploy and retrieve mosquito traps.  Document results of trapping activities and send samples to the State of Utah. Work with public complaints and inspect for larvae and mosquitoes. Apply chemicals to prevent buildup of adult mosquitoes.

Maintain and repair chemical sprayers; apply larvicide and/or adulticide to prevent the proliferation of mosquitoes.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1.             Education and experience:

A.             Sufficient education to demonstrate an aptitude to perform above and related duties;

AND

B.             Sufficient experience to demonstrate the ability to perform above and related duties;

2.             Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Basic knowledge of the types of weed present in Daggett County; county policies & procedures including Pesticide Discharge Management Plan.

Some ability to demonstrate skill in the operating spray equipment; detect various weeds and determine the procedure for their control; Pass tests to become a certified Pesticide Applicator for mosquitoes; Drive ATV or truck to locations needing pest treatments or to collect mosquito samples; deploy and retrieve Mosquito traps;  document results of trapping activities and send samples to State of Utah; follow up on resident complaints and inspect their areas for larvae and mosquitoes;  apply larvicide or adulticide as needed to prevent buildup of adult mosquitoes; document all activities and complete all assigned paperwork;  attend Mosquito Abatement District Board meetings and report on activities and needs; work with aerial sprayers to ensure successful applications; communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

3.             Special Qualifications:

Ability to pass tests and become a Certified Pesticide Applicator for mosquitoes.  Must possess and maintain a valid Utah State Driver's License.

4.             Work Environment:

Tasks require a variety of physical activities, occasionally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Talking, hearing and seeing essential to the safe performance of required duties. May be required to climb and balance. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability and discriminating thinking. Regular exposure to toxic or hazardous chemicals and materials with a respirator Frequent travel required in course of performing portions of job functions. Regular exposure to outside elements and weather extremes.
