Asphalt Paver/Spreader Operator

A Paver/Spreader Operator is responsible for laying down Hot Mix Asphalt material on the roadway. The operator is responsible for setting up the paver, making sure it is level and properly aligned, and then controlling the speed of the machine to lay the asphalt evenly. The operator must also ensure that the asphalt is appropriately compacted and maintains a consistent depth. In addition, the operator is responsible for monitoring the asphalt supply, checking for any issues with the paver, and making necessary adjustments to ensure the job is completed to specification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities but are not limited to the following:

• -Operate asphalt paver to lay asphalt on road surfaces, parking lots, and other construction projects

• -Level asphalt using a rake, tamper, or roller

• -Check and adjust settings of asphalt paver to ensure smooth and even flow of asphalt onto the surface

• -Position and secure the screed according to the desired width and depth of asphalt

• -Inspect and maintain asphalt paver, making adjustments and repairs as needed

• -Ensure that paving operations are conducted in an efficient and cost effective manner

Education/Experience

• -Ability to perform strenous work

• -Ability to operate heavy machinery

• -Strong understanding of asphaly paving principles

• -Must have some basic mathmatical skills

• -Good penmanship, record keeping, and basic computer skills

• -Ability to follow verbal and written instruction

• -Ability to communicate effectively over the radio

• -High School diploma or GED equivalent

Minimum Skills and Requirements

• -Must be a Self Motivated Person who can work well on their own in a plant environment

• -Ability to be flexible with last minutes Schedule/Location/Shift changes as workload dictates
