Position Summary

The Department of Neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking to recruit an experienced Nurse Practitioner for the Neurology Consult service at NYP-Westchester Hospital, under the direction of Igor Zilberman, MD, NYP-Westchester Neurology Site Director, and Alyssa Bautista, MD, Director of Hospitalist Neurology Program. The Nurse Practitioner will be a member of the Hospitalist Neurology Program in the Department of Neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. The Nurse Practitioner will perform initial neurological consultations and follow-up consultations on inpatients and Emergency Department patients in collaboration with an on-site neurologist who is also a member of the Hospitalist Neurology Program in the Department of Neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

The Neurology Consult team provides advanced neurologic care at NYP-Westchester Hospital, a 288-bed facility that is part of the New York-Presbyterian Hospital. It has a busy Emergency Department, cancer center, maternity center, breast health center, two cardiac catheterization labs, and a state-designated stroke center. As a New York State Department of Health-designated Primary Stroke Center, NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester has a highly skilled and dedicated stroke team ready 24/7 to immediately assess and treat Emergency Department and inpatients experiencing symptoms of a stroke.

The Neurology Consult team provides a full range of inpatient and Emergency Department consultative services for diseases such as stroke, neuromuscular disorders (including myasthenia gravis crises and Guillain-Barre syndrome), paraneoplastic syndromes, inflammatory vasculitis, headache and other disorders.

The Neurology Consult team collaborate closely with our neurology and neurosurgery colleagues at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital in New York City.

Responsibilities

This is a full-time clinical position that includes providing initial Neurology Consultation and follow-up care in the inpatient and emergency medical setting, calling and conferring with primary teams, all under the supervision of an attending neurologist. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Render direct patient care including but not limited to obtaining patients' history, performing comprehensive and targeted physical examinations, ordering and evaluating diagnostic tests.

  • Document all patient/caregiver encounters.

  • Participate in family meetings, counsel and instruct patients and their caregivers.

  • Participate in daily multidisciplinary team meetings.

  • Primary Patient Care duties - 80%

  • Administration - 10%

  • Other duties as assigned - 10%

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus five years of related experiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Critical Care, emergency department care, and/or inpatient neurology care.

Other Requirements

  • New York State NP and RN license
  • Able to meet New York-Presbyterian Hospital credentialing requirements.
