About You and this Role
Dow is seeking an Electrical Technologist to support Energy and Environmental Operations located in Orange, TX.
The Electrical Technologist provides specialized technical support for medium voltage (and below) electrical equipment and systems. Understands and implements Most Effective Technology (MET), work process, tools, and industry best practices within the electrical discipline. May act as a working team lead, providing subject matter guidance and coordinating work of others. Serves as a mentor/coach for technicians, engineers, planners, and work activity coordinators to develop and execute proper maintenance scope for electrical equipment.
Responsibilities
Provides experience on failures and repair techniques during root cause investigations.
Provides technical expertise to plant personnel on troubleshooting failures, repairs, and evaluating whether equipment is designed to meet its intended or existing service conditions.
Facilitates repairs through completion including verifying repair criteria are met.
Provide technical support for specification, identification and purchasing of needed parts.
As appropriate and required, reviews spare parts list for existing equipment and works with MRO to ensure parts are identified, added, and stocked in the MRO system in support of the maintenance strategy.
Develops and maintains maintenance procedures based on Most Effective Technology (MET).
Participates in developing the maintenance budget to support the maintenance strategy.
Serves as a technical resource to the planner on work packages.
Evaluates Condition-Based Monitoring (CBM) activities and determines appropriate action.
Provides training on technical concepts, safety, and culture in alignment with plant leadership.
Comprehensive knowledge and experience in
DC electrical systems up to 250VDC
AC electrical systems up to 4.16 kV
Synchronous motors and motor starters up to 4.16 kV
Switchgear including fuses, breakers and disconnects up to 4.16 kV
Transformers up to 14.4kV
All types of instrumentation
Isolation of energy sources
Electrical drawings and schematics (one-lines, three-lines, starters, breakers, trip circuits, etc...)
Common testing tools and understanding of results (voltage, resistance, phasing, power factor, and insulation)
General troubleshooting of electrical systems and instrumentation
Electrical safety
Qualifications
A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED
Must have a current, valid US driver’s license.
A minimum of 10 years of electrical/ instrumentation experience in an industrial setting is required.
Working knowledge of process instrumentation, motors, electrical circuits, and electrical distribution is required.
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred Skills
Detailed knowledge of Breakers, Switchgear and VFD’s
An Associate degree in Electrical or Instrumentation
Experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of reciprocating electrical and instrumentation systems is preferred.
NCCER Certification is preferred.
SAP experience preferred.
Ability to use and read diagnostic tools
Experience using Microsoft Office software.

Physical Demands
Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
Wear and use respirators.
Perform occasional bending, reaching, and lifting.
Work in tight or closed-in spaces.
Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.
Stand or walk for extended periods of time.
Ability to work comfortably and safely at elevated heights. Candidates must be familiar with, or willing to undergo training in, the proper usage and maintenance of safety equipment to ensure safe movement and operations at heights.
