Duties
  • Interprets and applies current environmental protection laws, regulations, and policies to operation and maintenance activities.
  • Performs studies to evaluate compliance with environmental protection requirements.
  • Develops and adapts innovative programs and procedures to ensure efficient and effective compliance with the environmental requirements.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge concerning current safety and occupational health laws, regulations, policies.
  • Coordinates with representatives of other government agencies and private firms in developing and maintaining plans and procedures to comply with environmental and safety and occupational health requirements.
  • Monitors and maintains records of compliance activities and personnel training.
  • Serves as training coordinator and instructor for a wide variety of complex training topics.
  • Performs studies, testing, inspections, planning, budget formulation, record keeping for compliance with safety, occupational health, and environmental protection laws and regulations.
Conditions of Employment

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Heavy Lifting up to 75 lbs. required.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience with environmental compliance, performing site inspections, evaluating work practices to determine compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and recommending changes to control or eliminate potential or existing hazards or violations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: environmental science and policy, environmental protection, environmental science, biology, geosciences or natu
