Navistar, Inc. Manufacturing Operations Supervisor in Springfield, Ohio

Position Overview

Navistar's Springfield Assembly Plant is currently seeking a Manufacturing Operations Supervisor to join our team!

The Manufacturing Operations Supervisor will lead a team responsible for solving issues in a production environment through problem solving and developing solutions that meet quality and production goals. Interfaces with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering and Launch Engineering in coordinating the release of new products and processes or design changes to existing products. Works to ensure error proofing systems function properly throughout the plant to maintain high product quality. Thoroughly understands and maintains Bill of Material for the entire Assembly Plant. Works closely with all other groups within the facility to minimize downtime and ensure operators have the proper information to complete their assigned functions. Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations. This position will also manage a represented workforce to meet department objectives with accuracy and efficiency.

This position is a key member of the Technical Services leadership team reporting to the Manufacturing Operations Manager Associate.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for effectively leading their team as well as meeting departmental plans and objectives

  • Regularly interact with members throughout the facility, so strong interpersonal skills are required

  • Build and maintain strong positive, working relationships with all individuals and help train a strong workforce

  • Supervising hourly workforce in a manufacturing facility

  • Interfacing with both internal and external customers to ensure achievement of safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives within the department

  • Responsible for the daily supervision of hourly employees, including, but not limited to effective management of attendance, discipline, training, and work performance

  • Responsible for cultivating a healthy, high-performance culture for hourly paid personnel

  • Responsible for enforcement of contractual language and obligations and working with local Union Representatives toward effective resolution and prevention of grievance issues

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • At least 3 years of production/manufacturing experience

OR

  • Master’s degree

  • At least 1 year of production/manufacturing experience

OR

  • At least 5 years of production/manufacturing experience

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Desired Skills

  • Experience working in and supervising a union workforce as this individual will lead a department of 20+ process planners.

  • All individuals are part of the local 658 union. Contract language required. Actively lead, mentor and coach the Planning Department Team.

  • Manage daily activities in a fast-moving, dynamic environment. Ability to discern what is important and what is not.

  • Identify and track key measures of success through data analysis and performance.

  • MES knowledge (Manufacturing Environment Systems) and engineered drawing skills.

  • Prior leadership experience is needed.

  • Microsoft office (Excel, Work, PowerPoint) required.

  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated leadership and self-motivation skills.

  • Knowledge of the truck assembly process and lean manufacturing principles.

  • Ability to use logic and methods to analyze problems and make effective decisions.
