PeaceHealth is seeking a Surgical Support Aide - Operating Room for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Variable position.

The general salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $18.08 – $30.95. The actual hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to, the job/position responsibilities, location, terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement, education, training, work experience, seniority, work performance, etc.

This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. There may be more than one opening on this posting.

Job Summary

Responsible for assisting in tasks involving patient care and maintenance of the operating room. The primary focus is to help with set-up and efficient turnover of the operating rooms and caring for the instruments and equipment to be used during the surgical procedure.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in pulling instruments and supplies for surgical procedures. Set up equipment for surgical procedure.

  • Order and restock inventory and supplies for department. Stock and put supplies away in individual operating rooms.

  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize equipment. Assists with clean-up and room turnover.

  • Provide assistance with moving and lifting patients. Transport patients.

  • Transport specimens to appropriate area/unit.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Preferred: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience

  • Preferred: Previous experience with sterile/aseptic techniques

  • Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs

Credentials

  • Strongly Preferred: Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA or NAC) - Washington

  • Required Upon Hire: Basic Life Support

Skills

  • Well organized, detail oriented and self-motivated. (Required)

  • Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others. (Required)

  • Basic computer/keyboarding skills including MS Office applications. (Required)

  • Understanding of operating room protocols. (Required)

Working Conditions

Lifting

  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).

  • Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.

  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment (i.e. stretchers, wheelchairs, etc.).

  • Frequent reaching/ grasping.

  • Occasional bending/ stooping.

  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 25 lbs. force. Occasional up to 50 lbs. force.

Environmental Conditions

  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.

  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.

  • Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.

Mental/Visual

  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
