VCA Animal Hospitals Animal Care Supervisor in Sylvania, Ohio
We are seeking a highly experienced Animal Care Professional to join our leadership team as Animal Care Supervisor.
As a member of the VCA team, your mission will be to win the confidence of every pet parent—by delivering an outstanding client experience—so they will partner with us for the lifelong care of their companion animals.
The Animal Care Supervisor is responsible for hiring, training and scheduling boarding and grooming staff for 7 days a week. In addition, they are responsible for monitoring the well-being of all pets in the care of the boarding department, ensuring adequate record keeping and monitoring of feeding schedules and medication administration is done appropriately. This position will work in conjunction with the hospital’s medical staff to provide medical care when appropriate and necessary.
The Supervisor will ensure that laundry, bathing, cleaning and other tasks are completed in a timely manner. They also work with staff to provide excellent customer service while booking appointments, during drop off, when communicating with clients during their pets stay, and the pickup of pets. Finally, the Supervisor will direct other projects within the boarding facility as necessary.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Directly supervise animal care staff and assist other managers in the supervision of their staff when necessary
Train and supervise the animal care team members to ensure exceptional care, quality client service and maximum productivity and to enable employees to support the goals of the department
Promote a “one practice” philosophy by tearing down the "wall" between the hospital and the rest of the practice, promoting the Gold Standards of VCASylvaniaVET
Assist in performance appraisals on staff members under their supervision
Assist in administering Performance Improvement Plans and Corrective Action when necessary
Foster effective communication between the hospital and VCASylvaniaVETclients
Support the administrative and financial policies of the practice
Participate on committees as assigned
Create and maintain work schedules that support the needs of the hospital while working within the confines of a40 hourwork week
Assist in providing solutions to practice wide problems
Assist in increasing revenue for the hospital, as well as decreasing unnecessary expenses
Lead by example through effective communication, positive attitude and upbeat demeanor
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required
Minimum Requirements
Prior Animal Care Experience.
Knowledge of dog and cat body language and behavior.
General animal care and handling experience.
You are required to ensure staff receives information from the previous shift and then communicate information to the next shift.
You must be able to communicate well across different departments, with the hospital staff, and with clients. Communication is in-person, by phone, through client file notes, and via e-mail and text-message.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Outlook, as well as basic typing skills is required.
Preferred Qualifications
• 2+ years Veterinary or Boarding Facility experience.
• 2+ years Supervisory experience in an animal-related field.
Required Experience
• 6 months to one year of Supervisory experience.
• 1+ year of Veterinary Assistant/ Technician Experience OR 2+ years Boarding Facility/ Kennel Experience.
