ProMedica Health System Surgery Supervisor - Surgery - Full Time - Days in Toledo, Ohio

Coordinates high quality patient care in Surgery. Provides staff support though facilitation, coaching, and role-modeling leadership behaviors which enhance quality patient care, excellent customer service, and fosters employee development.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise

  1. Plans with the director to facilitate unit organization within established policies and procedures, standards of care, age related competencies, budgetary parameters, and long-range objectives.

  2. Responsible for staff development within specific services. Provides staff with opportunities for improvement, advancement, and professional development. Promotes the clinical ladder. Supervises staff including all performance management functions of performance appraisals, recognition, and discipline.

  3. Coordinates all patient care activities within the service area, fostering departmental standards of care, policies and procedures and age-related competencies.

  4. Serves as a resource person and demonstrates clinical expertise, able to scrub and circulate as needed. Maintains mastery of age-related competencies. Takes administrative call as assigned. May take clinical call, as needed.

  5. Promotes an environment within the unit conducive to psychological and physical safety.

  6. Manages staff assignments based on level of clinical practice, procedures and needs of department and staff.

  7. Coordinates daily activities of the unit with all team members to ensure that all surgeries are accomplished efficiently, timely, with expected patient outcomes, and a minimum of complaints.

  8. Develops and ensures standards are maintained for equipment, supplies, and specialty trays. Collaborates with management and physicians to identify cost reduction opportunities.

  9. Supports mission, goals, and objectives of surgical services; supports, assists, and communicates such to departmental supervisors and service coordinators.

  10. Serves the following age populations, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.

  11. Performs other duties as directed. Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or be currently enrolled pursuing a bachelor’s degree.

Skills: Must be able to understand directions and be able to communicate and respond to inquiries. Must have excellent interpersonal skills.

Years of Experience: Minimum of 3 years surgery experience.

License: RN with current licensure in the State of Ohio.

Certification: CPR

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Years of Experience: Both scrubbing and circulating experience; Previous leadership experience

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands: Must be able to move about hospital and between workstations. Must be able to input and retrieve information from computer. Must be able to tolerate frequent exposure to latex and latex products. Must be able to tolerate exposure to blood borne pathogens and body fluids. Must be able to differentiate colors, work with monitors, VCR’s, hazardous materials, and equipment. Must be able to frequently lift, move, or carry medium to very heavy materials, equipment, or patients.
