Work Tasks to be performed.

There are general conditions of employment, general job specifications and individual requirements that are specific to each job duty:

 

Machine Clean up: Employees working in the machine clean-up position are expected to monitor the hop picking machine for plug-ups, breakdowns, or anything out of the ordinary. In the event of a breakdown, picking machine clean-up employees immediately notify mechanics of the issue. When the machine shuts down for scheduled maintenance, the picking machine cleanup crews will clean conveyor belts. Picking machine employees are expected to maintain a high degree of awareness and safety.

 

Van Drivers: Employees who possess or are able to obtain within 30 days following hire a valid, insurable driver's license, may be asked to transport H-2A employees living in housing to and from the worksite. Van drivers must have, or be able to obtain within 30 days after hire, a valid, insurable driver's license and show proficiency in operating a motor vehicle, and must provide a driving abstract or motor vehicle record (MVR) from their country of hire.

 

Use power equipment including but not limited to: tractors, planters, mowers, plows, sprayers, cultivators, power shears, chain saws, high lifts, fork lifts, skid loaders. Must operate agricultural equipment safely, with or without direction.

 

Repeated failure to obey safety requirements and operating instructions may result in termination. Moving Drip Tubing - Employees will be asked to move the drip tubing to, or from the plant based on the needs of the irrigation schedule. Typically, this job is completed in teams of 20 employees per row.

Drip Tubing Removal and Repair: Workers will manually remove drip tubing from the hop plants and place it in the center of the row. The tubing will then be rolled up via a "roller" attached to a tractor PTO. After drip tubing is rolled back out into the field, workers will manually move the tubing back to the plant. Workers will walk down the rows, or drive an ATV down the rows, and check for drip tubing that is leaking water. Workers will then cut the damaged portion of tubing off and re-attach with a coupler Install/maintain irrigation systems and water lines: Irrigation system Installation: A group of employees may be asked to assist with installation of new irrigation systems. This job entails laying out PVC pipe, cutting pvc pipe, and gluing pvc pipe. Work will also include backfilling trenches with shovels.

Irrigation system repair: Employee will be asked to repair pvc pipe or drip tubing that is leaking or non-operable. Exposing the broken pvc or drip tubing may require manual shovel and backfilling thereafter. Employees will operate all-terrain vehicles through the field to locate breaks. Workers may operate mower in organic blueberries.

 

Other requirements Workers must wear all required and assigned personal protective equipment when required. Workers must report for work daily wearing work clothing and boots or other durable footwear. Shorts, bathing suits or other casual clothing is not permitted. Workers wearing clothing inappropriate for work will not be permitted to start work.
