The Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering maintains an active research program in the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Center (ACRC) and invites applications for a research faculty position at all ranks in ACRC. As a member of the Center, this individual will conduct research within the department and advise graduate students toward the completion of their MS and PhD degrees; as well as work closely with the ACRC to coordinate company recruiting, research projects, proposals and staff and student leadership.

  • ACRC Administration duties will require the successful applicant to facilitate and ensure project progress and milestones meet deliverables and established deadlines; serve as advisor to students with research activities and technical challenges.
  • Provide guidance with students writing technical peer-reviewed journal publications.
  • Conduct experiments in the laboratory with students per project requirements.
  • Serve as manager of ACRC expenditures utilizing university applications and programs and oversee all required record retention.
  • Seek external funding by writing proposals to both public agencies and private industry.
  • Secure funding to support the operation of the research lab and students.
  • Maintain ACRC membership; meeting with potential new members and ensuring current members are satisfied with center direction and growth.
  • Collaborate with ACRC Director on center leadership activities and organization during ACRC meetings.

The successful applicant will hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, with doctoral degree research focused on building heating ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration research.

Preferred qualifications will include one year of experience as a postdoctoral research associate/scholar or equivalent and a strong background in system level research activities and experimentation.

All applicants should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, strong leadership abilities, a background in HVAC&R technologies and system level research for the building and transportation sector. The ability to organize, manage, and complete multiple tasks with multiple deadlines; excellent technical, database, computer and analytical skills and a growth mindset.

This is a 100% non-tenure-track, renewable appointment on an academic year (nine-month) paid over twelve months. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
