Behavior Specialist Williston Basin School District #7
Job Summary: Provides interventions for students to increase responsible behavior and reduce negative behavior including but not limited to small group and one-on-one interventions. Communicate with the students parents, other district employees, and other school personnel to build and implement a strong support mechanism for the student. Documents, maintains, analyzes, and discusses data with the student, parents, and others to determine the impact of the interventions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing interventions, functional behavior assessments, and behavior plans to provide a safe and effective educational environment for students with challenging behaviors.
- Provide social skills instruction to students utilizing research-based.
- Works one-on-one with students evaluating needs and providing interventions to affect behavior.
- Review incident reports daily and monitor activity throughout the instructional day to maintain a safe environment for students and staff.
- Provides value clarification including rules, expectations, and consequences for inappropriate behavior.
- Consult with staff to obtain information and advice on student behavior problems.
- Completes all reporting requirements as mandated by the district, state, federal, and education agencies. Documents in Panorama daily (restraint, seclusion, assessments, behavioral data).
- Required to have prompt, regular attendance in person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours and as needed.
- Collaborates with instructional staff to develop student behavior objectives, goals, and plans well as methods to monitor conduct.
- Assesses and defuses situations using conflict resolution and management techniques.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the principal, immediate supervisor, and district-level administration.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures; report all unsafe activities.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, SKILLS:
- Must possess instructional knowledge of crisis intervention strategies.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of various data collection methods and subsequent analysis and interpretation of data to drive appropriate behavioral interventions.
- Ability to develop and present ideas effectively, orally and in written form.
- Must be able to maintain frequent, meaningful parental communication and develop proactive partnerships between the student/parent and school district to support academic achievement and pro-social behaviors.
- Must serve as a positive role model for students and model professional and ethical standards.
- Ability to apply a gradually progressive system of verbal and non-verbal strategies to effectively de-escalate potentially dangerous situations.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree or higher in Education. Five years of work experience where the position's primary function was working with children dealing with behaviors and consequences.
